Alison Galea Valletta B.Sc. I.T. (Hons) LSWPP LMIPP, a Maltese professional photographer hailing from the picturesque village of Attard.

She comes from a photographic background where imaging and cameras happen to be the ‘daily bread’... for Alison happens to be the daughter of Gino Galea, an established Master photographer. This type of environment conceived a lot of enthusiasm for artistic imaging. Alison, whose surname is partially synonymous with the famous capital city of Malta, is an integral part of a hard working team in the photographic profession.

Despite her love of photographic art...like many other young girls of her age, she had another dream…that of representing her country in a glamour contest abroad ! Her dream came true way back in 2005 when she placed a prestigious, first runner up in the Miss Teen Commonwealth after Miss Bahamas held in London. Ever since, she represented Malta abroad in no less than eight times. The list includes Germany, Malaysia, Cyprus, Sicily and sunny Spain. In November 2009 she tasted further success where she proudly carried the Maltese flag once again, this time in Boracay Island in the Philippines for Miss Earth International 2009.

Interestingly enough, her first step towards the art of photography as a profession commenced in 2001, when young Alison attended a course together with her dad as an introduction to the use of the editing software at the Malta University. Many years later in October 2008, Alison received a prestigious Licentiate of the ’Society of Wedding Photographers’ of the United Kingdom. It was follows by another distinction that of the ‘Malta Institute of Professional Photographers’ that very same year becoming the youngest local photographer to receive such an achievement at the age of twenty. At the young age of eighteen, she was introduced to wedding assignments mainly related to foreign couples who decided to ‘tie the knot’ in Malta. She succeeded to establish herself in wedding photography to this very day becoming an integral part of family run studio.

Alison made such a name for herself thanks to her artistic flair, time management and of course ‘speed’ in the execution of wedding photography on the big day. Her style illustrates a perfect balance between the ‘raportage’ style of coverage blending harmoniously with the ever important traditional style illustrating those formal and casual wedding portraiture...though with a difference. Alison is well-known for her warm and relaxed approach with her clients. She handles her models very professionally and tactfully to calm them down to enjoy their experience in front of a camera! She is also reputed with capturing the personality, the atmosphere, those special family moments, the mood and the laughter during a typical wedding... making Alison Galea Valletta one of the most sought afterfemale wedding photographers in Malta. She is highly creative both ‘on location’, at the studio and of course at the final editing stage, being an IT specialist, for Alison graduated in Information Technology ( B.Sc IT.- Hons) at the Malta University in Dec 2009. It was simply inevitable that the choice of her theme of specialisation for the thesis turned out to be an impeccable creation of a ‘software through which a diversity of digital images would be classified in categories at the click of a button’!

Her I.T. background would of course further extend her ability to tackle the unlimited horizons of creativity even further making her a ‘complete’ photographer. Alison quickly established herself as the logical choice for those couples who preferred the creativity of a ‘female’ photo artist in a male dominated industry...How about the opinion of the photographer herself?

Quote, ” I feel very lucky to come from a studio environment, where as a child I used to play in the midst of cameras, lenses and the rest . Parallel with all this, I’ve always been motivated by my father’s modelling photo shoots illustrating the magic of the catwalk experience. This must have triggered my ’inner self’ towards the beauty of modelling. This took off thanks to the dedication and commitment coming from Sue Rossi’s modelling school where I was introduced to the first steps on the catwalk! This opened new horizons in the modelling world too even though the local modelling opportunities are rather very limited in this respect.

However in my real specialisation, i.e. the art of photography, the story is completely different. When I am holding the camera, I concentrate in telling ‘a story’ through a sequence of pictures... I just want to be in control of that lighting situation! When it comes to wedding photography, I do not like to intervene in the proceedings of the day! On many occasions, I won’t even tell you were to stand and when to smile at my camera! I seek to document your special day as discreetly as possible, allowing you to do what you should be doing on your wedding day! In other words maximise from YOUR day. I like to target the excitement, like those tears of laughter and joy … hopefully to ensure that your photos DO illustrate a genuine representation of your big day…as naturally as possible.

That is my corporate philosophy...i.e. to enjoy the day whilst providing a truly professional and artistic compilation forever! Alison Galea Valletta B.Sc I.T. (Hons) LSWPP LMIPP, hailing from Attard, was brought up in an environment of a family run business related to the art of photography.

Her father, Gino Galea, who happens to be a professional photographer himself, had always been a direct influence and inspiration for young Alison. He still recalls his young three -year old daughter crawling in front of a snail, holding a plastic toy camera...pretending to be on assignment!

He also recalls that when she was only twelve years old she was already giving a helping hand in lighting techniques during wedding commissions. Once again, a year later in 2001, Alison joined her dad to an introductory course in Photoshop techniques at the Malta University Services. This was at a critical stage in photography when the digital revolution was taking over from the traditional analogue imaging. Consequently, the past decade served as an important platform for young Alison to build up her portfolio and experience. The love for photography had to make way to her academic studies related to her IT degree at the University of Malta. The 'art of imaging' had also been demonstrated through her final-year thesis where she created an innovative 'Image ranking software' which earned her the B.Sc. IT (Hons) degree in December 2009.

Interestingly enough, Alison handled her first wedding commission to a Dutch couple with flying colors at the remarkable age of eighteen years old!

In November 2008 she became the youngest Maltese candidate to earn the prestigious Licentiate of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photography at the age of 20. This was followed by that of the Malta Institute of Professional Photographers. Another landmark in Alison's creative career was her participation in the Bank of Valletta Photography Exhibition in April 2010. During the past four years, she became very much involved in portraiture, studio photography and wedding photography. Alison is very much involved in the popular TV fashion program 'Looks' where she explains basic tips about the art of photographic technique to the televiewers !

Parallel with the art of photography, Alison has an impressive career in modelling and beauty pageants both locally and abroad. She proudly carried the Maltese flag in various overseas activities, starting a highly successful year 2006 through a series of modeling events particularly abroad. In June, that year, she was invited to participate in a fashion show in Sicily. This was followed by London in July when she participated and placed a prestigious first runner-up position for Malta in the Miss Teen Commonwealth, after Miss Bahamas. Then in October that same year she was invited in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as a guest in the Malaysian/Indian global pageant. That unforgettable year 2006 closed for Alison by her participation in Mannheim Germany, again representing Malta in the Miss Queen of the World 2006 beauty contest.

Once again, Alison represented her country in Alicante, Spain in the 'Best International Female Model' in July 2008. In the following year, in October 2009, Alison formed part of the Maltese winning team in the Miss European 2009 in Folkestone, Kent carrying the title of 'Best team dance' for Malta. Her modeling career culminated in November 2009, when again, she represented Malta in the third world-ranking contest, i.e. Miss Earth 2009 Beauty Pageant on Boracay Island, the Philippines, which went to Miss Brazil. During this event, Alison appeared in various photo shoots, environmental activities, fashion shows and was also shortlisted for the Miss Earth TV Promo around Asia on ABS CBN TV network.

Alison is currently modeling for a leading fashion boutique for TV promos. She is currently enjoying the 'dual role, both as a model and a photographer ! This in itself creates a better understanding for Alison therefore communicating better with her models that this time happen to be in front of HER camera!
